Matt and I had such a fun weekend!!!:)
We had a weekend off from shoots & weddings, so we went to Fredericksburg to see Matt’s parents. Luckily, his brother’s family & his sister were also able to come… but we didn’t tell his parent’s that! On Friday night, Matt and I unlocked the basement door so that the others could sneak in & surprise his parents! The look on their faces was priceless and I am so happy we could do something special for them!!! They just recently celebrated 40 years of marriage, and we loved getting to be together to enjoy a delicious meal at a japanese steak house & spend some more time together this summer!!
We were also able to see my parent’s for just a little bit. My dad breeds hogs for local 4-Hers and for slaughter. I grew up raising them & showing them in local & state fairs! It’s always fun to go home & see the ones he has on the farm. Fortunately, we were also able to take a look at the newest members of the farm… his giant pumpkins!!! Daddy starting growing pumpkins last year & competed in the VA State Fair. This year he took his operation to a whole new level…
Look at how big they are?!?! The very pale ones are each over 500 lbs. and within 60 lbs of each other; and the pretty bright orange one is the biggest… a monstrous 850 lbs. and STILL GROWING!! AH!!! Talk about a big jack-o-lantern:) But you won’t see these at a haunted house… Dad will be taking one to the VA State Fair and one to a Fair in PA, so we’re hoping they continue to grow for the weigh-in this fall (The VA State Record is 1,138 lbs!!! AH!!!). Growing giant pumpkins is series business (see how they each have shade AND a mini fan?!)!!! He and my mom have been working SO hard on these the last few months, so I really hope the bugs and mice stay away, and that the weather stays on his side! I love that he is so passionate about this and can’t WAIT to see what they look like in a month!!!
And all these pumpkins make me even MORE excited for Pumpkin Spice lattes!!!:) I just LOVE fall & am so happy it’s right around the corner!!
