For some reason, this year my mind keeps wanting to skip right over Thanksgiving!! Maybe it’s because it’s so late in the month, or the weather recently reminds me more of Christmas, or the fact that my styled shoot a few weeks ago was completely Christmas-related… whatever the reason, I STILL have a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that TOMORROW I get to wear stretchy pants, eat TOO much Turkey, sweet potato casserole (with the marshmallows – YES) and hang out with our family. Matt and I get two Thanksgivings this year – tomorrow with my family and Friday with his. THEN leftovers on Saturday. Yum, yum, yum!!!
Because I feel like my heart hasn’t really been thinking about Thanksgiving this year, I decided to jump on the band-wagon and write a post dedicated to what I’m thankful for.
I think it’s incredibly important to spell out exactly WHAT we have to be thankful for. We spend 11 months of the year complaining, right? So why not spend 1 month being thankful. I’m kidding. Kind of.
I decided to write 24 things I’m thankful for since I’m 24 years old. So, here goes (in no real order)…
1. Freedom. Freedom in Christ, in our Country, in my Faith. Freedom to LIVE.
2. Marriage. It’s such a blessing. Such a beautiful, unbelievable, sometimes-really-hard blessing. Our wedding was beautiful, but our marriage is even better.
3. This business. I love, love, love DSE. My brides, this blog, my work. It’s amazing.
4. My parents. They support every single decision I make; they believe in me, love me & always have great advice. They raised my sassy-attitude & put up with me for 24 years… that’s something to be thankful for.
5. Knox. I LOVE MY DOG. So, so much.
6. Best friends. Girl talk, group texts, wine nights, inside jokes… they make my life so full.
7. Books. I love to read. I’m a little nerdy about it, but I don’t even care. I love getting lost in a story & I’m thankful the Lord gave me the passion for it.
8. Facebook/Instagram. Weird, but true. I’m really thankful for the ability to connect with people from all.over.the.world so effortlessly. It’s amazing, really.
9. Rose Gold. Yes, I said it. I really, really love rose gold; and I’m thankful it’s around.
10. My job. My 9-5 job. I’m thankful I have the ability to financial help our home & work in an environment that is inviting & encouraging.
11. Matt. I can’t imagine being married to anyone else. I’m SO, SO thankful for him!!! I love that we laugh together – A LOT. That he cooks 90% of the time (best.thing.ever.), and that he genuinely supports my role as a wife… I can’t tell you enough how much it shows his love for me, daily.
12. My “other” family. I married into an amazing family. I gained another set of parents, 2 sisters, 2 brothers and the CUTEST NEPHEW EVER. I’m so thankful for them, their support & their friendship.
13. My brother. I will always be his #1 fan & I know he would do anything for me.
14. My education. I’m thankful I have a bachelors degree from a college I LOVE & am proud of.
15. Target. Enough said.
16. Music. Worship music, country music, Christmas music, “popular” music – I really, really love it all. Song lyrics touch my soul.
17. Hot showers. I’m thankful for long, hot showers. Especially on really cold days.
18. Lord of the Rings. GEEK ALERT. I really, really love those movies, y’all!! And I’m so thankful those amazing books were made into AMAZING movies.
19. Blue Bird. My little Honda gets me places I need to be. I love her good gas mileage & cute appearance.
20. The Bible. It still blows my mind sometimes when I really process how the WORD of GOD is with us. All the time. Crazy.
21. Flowers. I love a pretty, fluffy (and preferably pink) bloom.
22. Home. There’s something really sacred about that word. I’m thankful I have a home with my husband, with my family, with his family. I’m thankful we are now creating our own home, as our own family unit.
23. Christmastime. I’m thankful for the ability to celebrate the birth of Jesus. To sing Mariah Carey at the top of my lungs. To wrap pretty gifts. To spend time with my family.
24. Really great planners. I love to be organized. I love to see my day/month (and yes, even year) lined up & easy to see. I’m so thankful for planners.
So there you have it. 24 Things I’m Thankful For – some random, some serious. Big or little, I’m thankful.
What are YOU thankful for?
