Last week, I drove down to the OBX in North Carolina to spend a few days with a group of new & old friends. We stayed in Duck, NC in a big beach house filled with Macbook’s, leggings & Duck Donuts. We laughed, shared client stories and spent the afternoons working on our various business tasks… it was pure heaven.
We were a hodgepodge of creative businesswoman – 3 planners, 2 photographers, 3 stationary designs and 1 lingerie/dress designer. Each with families of our own, big dreams we hope to conquer and a mess of to-dos that never seem to stop. We each have various obligations and had our own trello boards, sticky notes & client calls throughout the trip. Yet it was one of the most relaxing trips I have EVER been on!!!
While I absolutely believe in taking time to truly “un-plug” and put the laptop, iPhone and iPad away, I also think there is beauty in a relaxing, no-fuss, low-stress WORK-CATION!!
Even though our businesses are very different, there’s something special about sitting around a beach house living room working on our various tasks, laughing/venting & just being together.
When we work from home, it’s lonely. It’s hard to stay productive, stay motivated and even take an actual shower. We get emails that may not be the most fun to read, we deal with highs AND lows day-in & day-out, and sometimes it’s just nice to sit next to someone with a plate of cheese & crackers, music in the background & your laptop on your lap.
I’m so grateful Annmarie coordinated this trip & Michelle invited us into her in-laws beach house!! If you have the chance to plan a few days away with your boss lady besties, do it. Spend a few days away enjoy a little work and a little play! We’ve already got 2.0 on the calendar!:)

What a fun trip!! I would love to have a group of gals to work around in the future. I’m planning a trip for all the gals that came to my bachelorette party last year and I’m looking into Duck!
I LOVE Duck!!! I have always vacationed in the OBX area (Duck, Corolla, Kitty Hawk or Nags Head)! You can’t go wrong down there!:)
[…] hit the road to the OBX for a few days in the middle of the month & it was an amazing workcation. There’s just something about spending quality time with women in the industry working, […]
