This week I faced something I had never faced before while owning a small business –
a broken laptop.
See, my weekend had been one of pure wedding bliss. A gorgeous couple, an amazing team of vendors, beautiful details & a stellar team behind me.
So when I opened up my laptop on Sunday to do a bit of pre-blogging, I was shocked to see black blobs & thin blue & green & red lines filling the screen.
Cue ultimate panic.
I legit FREAKED out. I was actually totally speechless for the first 60 seconds – opening & closing my mouth like a fish out of water.
I saw 3 years of hard work going down the drain. All my wedding files, photos & content… GONE.
Did I have some of it back up on an external? Yes. Did I have some of it on Google Drive? Yes again. But even knowing that, I was still totally shocked & about to hyperventilate.
I went to the EXTREME emotion. I went from thinking logically to thinking with ONLY emotion.
And it turns out – my laptop wasn’t completely broken. The computer STILL worked – it was the screen inside the glass that shattered. When I plugged it in to my TV, I could see everything. All of my work, my images, my software, my files… it was ALL there waiting for me.
Sometimes what seems impossible actually isn’t.
Sometime what seems broken isn’t as broken as we thought.
And sometimes all you need to do is sit on the floor, plug it in to a TV & get to work.
How often do we do that in our business? How often do we “go there” – we pass “Go” and JUST KEEP GOING. We forgot to stop, take a breath & THINK.
Is there something that feels broken in your business right now? Have you taken time to stop & think? It might not be as “broken” as you think.
xo! kat
