3 Quick Tips for Blog Planning Novices

If you’re blogging, blog planning can & will become your best friend!

Planning comes second nature to me & I love to see color-coded organization on my Google Calendar! I can literally sit for hours & plan out the coming weeks & months – anyone else feel like they can do the same?!

Blog planning has become second nature to me & I thought I would share 3 quick tips for blog planning your own posts:

  1. Understand how many days of the week you want to blog (and what those days are!) – First things first, you have to know how many days of the week you plan on blogging & what those days are. You’ve heard that consistency is key & it’s true! It’s easier on YOU and allows your readers a better idea of when to expect new content. For example: I blog Monday’s, Tuesday’s & Thursday’s. So I know I need to blog plan for 3 posts per week on those set days.
  2. Understand the overarching category or theme for each day – After you decide how many days of the week you want to blog, another way to allow for consistency in your posting strategy is to have overarching themes on those days. (For example, Monday’s are my “catch-all” days. Sometimes they are personal; sometimes they are DSE Friend post; they’re my “filler” days to write about whatever works in that given week! Tuesday’s are image heavy posts: weddings, shoots & C@H events! They are portfolio builders & days of the week I can blog to showcase weddings, flowers & conferences.) Now, this is your schedule so that means you can change things up as needed & I’m willing to bet your audience won’t notice that much!:) But if YOU have set themes/categories for each day you blog, it will help you to create content in your blog planning calendar.
  3. Brain dump content you would enjoy to write about / feel qualified to write about – The biggest fear I hear from other small biz owners about blogging is this: I’m not creating anything knew; someone else has probably blogged it. Well, you’re right. Someone, somewhere, in the crazy world of the internet has more than likely blogged about what you are blogging about!! But you know what? YOU haven’t. YOUR audience might not have read it, or at least they haven’t read it from YOUR perspective. Therefore you should write about it! Brain dump the things you feel passionate about writing up, the questions you get asked the most & the content you get excited over. From that, you can easily pick out blog post ideas & begin to place them on your planning calendar according to the number of days your blogging & the categories for each day!
