Baby Schmo is a…

Monday marks 18 weeks with our little miracle (and it’s Christmas Day – how perfect!!)!!

Today I wanted to give you a Pregnancy Update AND share the big news… we found out with our family we found out the gender of Baby Schmo!!!!!

Baby Schmo is a BOY!!!!!

AH! We are so, so excited and can’t believe our life will now be filled with so much BLUE & animals & toy trucks & so much football!!!! I’ll admit, I was TOTALLY shocked! I thought for SURE this baby was a girl, but I am so, so excited to meet our SON in May!!!!

We knew we wanted to find out the gender & when I did the math & realized we could tie a small gender reveal into Christmas, it made it even more special! Matt and I love Christmas… our house looks like a Hallmark movie, we have a list of over a dozen holiday movies we enjoy together in the month of December & he even counts down every month on the 25th of each month. It’s kind of a big deal over here!:) Finding out the gender of this sweet baby during all of the festivities was absolutely perfect; we couldn’t have been MORE excited!!!

My mom threw our gender reveal party for us and we’re so grateful! Take a peek at all the delicious food (Baby Schmo was quite happy!) and the cute signs I found on Etsy (guestbook & he/she sign here; wives tale sign here).

We went to PeekABoo in Fredericksburg, VA for our ultrasound at 17 weeks. (Side-note: before this pregnancy I didn’t realize how few ultrasounds you receive at your OB office!! We won’t have our 21 week ultrasound until January 15, but knew we could find out the gender earlier if we had another one done. Friends of mine have used PeekABoo & I’m so glad we did!) During the ultrasound our little one was moving ___ hands all around, yawning & practicing ____ breathing! We were in love!!! (We didn’t actually see ____ feet during the ultrasound since the tech told us to look away in case we could tell the gender!) They wrote the gender in an envelope & I gave it to a close friend, Emily. She and her husband were in charge of wrapping our gift & bringing it to the reveal! They did SUCH a sweet job with our gift & I’m so, so grateful for them!!!! (Nope, we didn’t talk all week leading up to the reveal since I knew she knew, ha!)!

How is everything else going?! Let me give you a little pregnancy update!:)

  • I haven’t felt “second trimester bliss” … just like my first trimester, I still have days where I feel utterly exhausted & have to nap, and I eat small meals every 3 hours or I feel incredibly nauseas. It’s definitely bearable, so I think this will be “normal” for me throughout the pregnancy.
  • My hair feels amazinggg! It’s thicker, shinier & I can get away with only washing it every other day (something I always wanted to be able to do, ha!)
  • My heartburn / indigestion is terrible! That’s my biggest pregnancy complaint. I eat tums daily & take zantac. Recently, I’ve started drinking 2-4 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar daily, as well as 8-16 oz of kombucha. I’m hoping I’ll be able to find some wholistic, natural ways to get rid of it or at least dim it!
  • Movies & books make me cry more frequently than before. Sometimes even a certain song comes on the radio & I’m reaching for the tissues!
  • I haven’t felt the baby “flutter” yet. I’m interested to see how that feels!!
  • We’ve (Matt) has painted the nursery! Yay! We chose Restore Grey by Sherwin Williams and I’m SO excited to pop in all the ____ decor now that we know the gender!!!
  • We bought our carseat, stroller & a swing on Black Friday. We didn’t intend to buy all three but the deals were too good to pass up! It’s so fun seeing the items take residence in my office!:)
  • Cravings? Give me ALL the hamburgers & fries, y’all!! Matt jokes that he’s eaten more burgers in the last month than in his entire life – hahaha! I just LOVE them!! Doesn’t matter where it’s from!:) I have also been craving Granny Smith Apples (they have to be Granny Smith!) and Banana Protein Shakes for breakfast! It makes me feel better to indulge in multiple burgers/fries each week knowing I’m also drinking my shakes + eating my apples!;)
  • Aversions? No fish, asparagus, pesto or coffee. All of those turn my stomach even though I loved them before!! I also have found that I have NO desire for my beloved Chipotle (what?!), and Matt has to give me a few hours heads up before our meals so I can decide if I really do want to eat it, ha! It’s so interested to be picky, but I either know if I want it or hate it (at least on that particular day!)!
  • My bump is definitely here & sometimes I feel like I’m too early to have such a large one… but oh well!! This baby is poppin’ and I’m going to embrace every bit (in my new maternity leggings!)!

We can’t wait to officially begin all the baby prep now the we know this little one is a boy!!!:) Thank you for sharing in our excitement!!!! Yay!!

xo! kat, matt & baby schmo
